Many patients want to get a second opinion. Depending on your cancer, you may want to have another doctor confirm the diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment plan. Your doctor may even refer you to another doctor. You should explore your options.

With some kinds of cancer, the best treatment options are very well known and understood, so obtaining a second opinion may not be necessary. Doctors may feel that some cancer treatments are routine. However, this isn't routine for you! If you feel at any time that your doctor or other healthcare providers are not giving you the information you need, you should speak up.
